Apria Healthcare is a provider of home respiratory services and certain medical equipment, including wheelchairs, hospital beds, walkers, lifts, durable medical equipment, oxygen therapy, inhalation therapies, sleep apnea treatment, and negative pressure wound therapy.

ARISE Sexual Assault Services provides free emergency services for individuals who experience sexual assault in and around Quay, De Baca, Roosevelt, Curry, Lea, Harding, and Union counties.

We operate a 24/7 crisis line as well as provide community education to prevent sexual assault. ARISE employs several licensed therapists to benefit the mental health of clients impacted by sexual assault. We employ three SANE nurses who perform sexual assault nurse exams at various satellite locations or at our main office in Portales, NM. Education/Prevention services are available either at our physical office or at the location of the requesting organization.

At this point in time, there are very few local mentoring opportunities in Catron County. The closest mentoring agency is in Silver City. Mentors in Silver City, Grant County and the region are needed now more than ever in this time of change. For more than 112 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters has operated on the belief that inherent in every child is the ability to succeed and thrive in life. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between adult volunteers (Bigs) and children (Littles), ages 5 through 18, in communities across the country. We develop positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.

Match Types:
Site Based Matches – Bigs and Littles meet at the Little’s school once per week. Matches enjoy reading, eating, crafting, playing basketball or board games or just talking.

Community Based Matches – Bigs and Littles meet 4 or more hours each month out in the community or through tech like Facetime or Zoom. Matches enjoy playing outdoors, going to a museum, reading together, or just hanging out.

At this time, there are no face-to-face parents support programs in Catron County. The Parents Reaching Out program is based in Las Cruces with a web-based component. The agency describes themselves as a non-profit organization that works with parents, caregivers, educators, and other professionals to promote healthy, positive and caring experiences for families and children.

Primary Care
Our Presbyterian Medical Services health centers provide a safety net of medical care for thousands of New Mexicans of all ages. Everyone is eligible to receive medical services. In addition to private pay, we accept Medicaid, Medicare, and private insurance. For the uninsured, a sliding fee scale is available based on income.

Dental
A great smile gives you one more reason to smile. Our comprehensive dental services consist of oral health screenings, cleanings, basic and major restorative care and denture services. When you need dental care, we're here for you and your family.

Your emotional wellness is every bit as important as your physical wellbeing. We provide support for a wide range of behavioral health conditions. Our services include crisis intervention, comprehensive assessments, individual and family counseling, psychiatric consultation and medications, substance abuse programs, educational groups for a variety of problems, and additional community support programs for those with serious, chronic mental health conditions.

Food bank distributes food on the 2nd Friday of each month. Sign-in begins at 10 am.

At this point, there are no homeless shelters in Catron county.  In Socorro, PSI Safe Harbor provides (in times of emergency like eviction, extreme cold, and house fires), temporary housing in a motel. We provide this service, and we also direct clients to housing agencies. Two showers are available to clients, one for women and one for men. We supply clients clean towels, shampoo, and soap. Local churches, businesses, organizations, and individuals donate clothing and household items to us every week. These items are available for free to our clients and their children. Please confirm through a phone call that services are available to all NM residents.

At this time there is very limited food pantry programming in the county.  Please call to confirm food services and if there are rules about who can get food.

Food is distributed on the 4th Wednesday of each month. Sign-in starts at 11:30 am. Foods are already packaged so there is no need to bring own boxes or bags but you are more than welcome to do so anyway. 

At this time, there is no domestic violence shelter in Catron County. In Silver City, El Refugio (ERI) operates the Casa Carmel Shelter for battered women/men and their children, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Temporary shelter is provided for up to 90 days with 30 day reviews. Safety and security are provided along with case management services and educational programs. Our guidelines and rules set a safety structure for single women/men and their children. Other services include: victim advocacy, counseling, domestic violence offenders treatment, domestic violence education and community outreach and intervention and rapid-housing.

At this time, there are no transportation systems or programs in Catron County. The state’s Aging and Long Term Services Department may be able to support local elders in identifying transportation to vital services. We recommend that his tax-payer supported  organization can be reached by advocates for our aging populations to begin the development of transportation options across Catron County.

Northern Youth Project serves young people ages 12 to 21, providing free programs and activities year round. The project works to empower teens in putting ideas into action: initiating projects they want to do, focusing on their interests, and engaging in activities driven by their passions. FLOW members initiate, plan, organize, execute, and manage all teen programs, community service projects and fundraisers—from mentoring younger children and community action to deciding where to go on field trips.

Offers to children and youth performing arts education, free healthy meals, tutoring, peer mentoring. Peer Mentors are recruited via a partnership with the City of Española’s Project R.A.C.E. They are trained and supervised by students from the Northern New Mexico STEM Mentor Collective under the guidance of Northern New Mexico College engineering professor and Moving Arts board member, Dr. Steve Cox. K-12 is offered. offers afterschool programs. McCurdy provides course offerings in all required subject areas with additional charter-required courses in the areas of Service Learning and Humanities. Students are encouraged to participate in service learning projects throughout the year. In partnership with Head Start, Youth Development Inc. operates 30 Head Start centers; 20 in Bernalillo County, and 10 in Taos and Rio Arriba County. The department provides high-quality free early childhood education, family development services, and child care for children from 0 to 5 years old. The Head Start curriculum supports the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development of young children and also offers prenatal care and education for pregnant women.

Services begin at pregnancy or time of birth and go until the child is 36 months. Home visits, trainings for first time parents/families, focus on building strong healthy, relationships.

Programs build nurturing connections between very young children and their parents, to give kids the very best chance at growing up healthy and safe. Services include home-based and center-based programs for prenatal to 6 years olds, prenatal care, doulas and birthing classes, breastfeeding information, nutrition support and grandparents raising grandchildren.
